There's something about a locket ... a tiny hollow space made to hold a miniature treasure, a secret, a private memory, a lock of hair. They're high on the list of things new metalsmiths can't wait to try ... and also high on the list of things that intimidate them!
We're delighted to be welcoming Lynette Andreasen back to the studio for two different approaches to lockets. She'll cover how to make locket halves that actually fit together; how to create hinges that really work; and an accessible alternative to hinges that still ticks all the boxes that make lockets so special.
This is an intermediate class; students should have solid foundational fabrication skills including sawing, filing, soldering, and finishing. Absolutely everything necessary to complete both projects is provided in this workshop – all tools, materials, and equipment! Bring a pen and notebook for note-taking and eye magnification if required, but otherwise just come and have fun!
A special word about materials fees in 2026:
The cost of silver is extremely volatile and higher than we have ever seen it. Accordingly, materials fees will not be posted until two to three weeks before the workshop date, based on the then-spot price of silver. Where possible, we will make use of alternative metals to keep costs down.
Information about taking workshops with us

Note: We recommend bringing your own eye magnification to help you see as clearly as possible while working. Because these needs are so personal, it's impossible for us to have the right thing on hand for every student. Need help with this? Call the studio or send us an email!
