Gem Carving with Dalan Hargrave

We are thrilled to be joined by master goldsmith and award-winning lapidary artist Dalan Hargrave for a four-day introduction to the art of gem carving. This rare opportunity will allow students to learn about both intaglio and reverse intaglio from an acknowledged master of the craft. Dalan will share his cost-effective entry-level carving setup, demystify burs and grinding tools, show how to make custom tools appropriate for the task at hand, and how to finish even the tiniest of details. 

All of the demonstrations will be recorded in close-up high definition video, and students will have 30 days access to them on our brand new learning platform. No prior lapidary experience is required, although we strongly recommend students have an interest and ability to build things with their hands.

Absolutely everything necessary to participate is provided in this workshop – all tools, materials, and equipment! Bring a pen and notebook for note-taking and eye magnification if required, but otherwise just come and have fun!
