If you are just starting out as a beginner working in a home studio, this workshop is for you! Join resident metalsmith Francesca Watson for a fun, two-day project that will introduce you to bezel creation, working with wire and sheet, and the basics of setting a cabochon. We'll also practice the fundamental skill of using a jeweler's saw and mark-making with simple stamps! Along the way, we'll discuss the properties of sterling silver; why flux is important and which ones work best for silver; how to get a professional finish on your piece; and much more. And as an added bonus, you'll get 30 days access to videos of the demos on our online learning portal... at no additional cost!
This workshop is part of this summer's beginner series and offers essential foundational skills, even if you've never touched a torch. Absolutely everything necessary to complete the project is provided in this workshop – all tools, materials, and equipment! Bring a pen and notebook for note-taking and eye magnification if required, but otherwise just come and have fun!
A special word about materials fees in 2026:
The cost of silver is extremely volatile and higher than we have ever seen it. Accordingly, materials fees will not be posted until two to three weeks before the workshop date, based on the then-spot price of silver. Where possible, we will make use of alternative metals to keep costs down.

(payable on the first day of class)
Note: We recommend bringing your own eye magnification to help you see as clearly as possible while working. Because these needs are so personal, it's impossible for us to have the right thing on hand for every student. Need help with this? Call the studio or send us an email!
