This workshop is being held live and in-person
at our Texas studio!

Live online seats are available here!

We're delighted to be welcoming "Un-sane" metal clay artist Michael Marx to our studio for the first time! Metal clay is a unique medium that allows makers to create dimensional, deeply patterned, and intricate forms previously most often seen in cast pieces, and Michael is known for his quirky, detailed, sculptural art that pushes the envelope in this terrific material.

In this one day class we will learn to make our own custom skull stencils, texture our skull designs, understand how to make flat and dimensional pendants and learn how to add fun optional details like bows, horns, headdresses, snakes and even band-aids! It's a great class for anyone wanting to get started in metal clay or just learn some new techniques from one of metal clay's most creative practitioners. You'll finish and fire your pieces in a single day, and as an added bonus, you'll get 30 days access to the same videos our online participants will get... at no additional cost!

There are no prerequisites for this class - beginners are welcome! Absolutely everything necessary to complete the project is provided in this workshop – all tools, materials, and equipment! Bring a pen and notebook for note-taking and eye magnification if required, but otherwise just come and have fun!

About Michael Marx

I have been a sculptor and artist as long as I can remember. My childhood gifts were art supplies as often as they were toys or books. I was born in Massachusetts in 1969 and lived there for 18 years, before moving to California in 1987. After 33 years in the Bay Area, I relocated to South Carolina in 2020, where I currently reside. In the beginning, I sculpted in FIMO, a polymer clay, and this honed my ability to transform my visions into 3-D images. In 2000, I took my first PMC (precious metal clay) class and was hooked. PMC’s affinity for texture, flexibility of form, and choices of finishing techniques make it ideal for me as an artist. The combinations of fine detail, high texture and varied forms are not easily achieved using traditional methods of casting and fabrication. While my main focus is making wearable sculpture, I also work in mixed-media.
