Join us for three days with master wire artist Kaska Firor! She’s bringing us three progressively more complex projects which – taken together – are designed to teach the fundamentals of her favorite signature wire-weaving and related techniques with beautiful results.
We’ll start with her Wire Woven Ribbon Bracelet. This project’s over-over weave and its variations are the basis for many other wire-weaving designs, including those with very complex, layered patterns. In addition to the weaving techniques, we’ll also learn how to loop and shape frame wires – and we’ll use a torch to ball up the ends of the wires.
Next, we’ll will work on the Woven with Flair Necklace. Building on the skills learned in the previous project, we will add additional techniques, including using templates to shape large-gauge wires, bending and manipulating woven ribbons, and learning how to add and drop frame wires for more complex design options.
We’ll finish with the Cabochon Pendant, where we’ll combine all the techniques from the bracelet and the necklace projects and add several new ones. We’ll be introduced to the over-under wave, as well as more advanced skills needed for setting a cabochon into a wire-woven bezel. For this last project, we will follow precise instructions to create the bezel and the pendant’s bail, then use our creativity and our newly learned skills to finish the pendant in our own unique way. No two pendants will be the same!
This workshop is perfect for all levels, so whether you have prior experience with wire weaving or you’ve never touched wire before, you’ll learn tons of new skills and leave with amazing and unusual finished projects. We’re providing absolutely everything you need, so all you have to do is bring eye magnification (this is essential!) and come ready to work and have fun!

She is the author of Weaving Freeform Wire Jewelry, and is currently working on her second book that will be coauthored by her silversmith daughter, Kat Colque.
