We’re kicking off 2018 with a visit from metalsmith Robyn Cornelius, who is bringing us two brand-new workshops! We’ll start out with her new Sand Cast Stone Rings class, where in just one day, Robyn will introduce us to a low tech way to cast our very own solid rings without the use of big equipment. We’ll learn how to cast shapes that would otherwise be hard to make in a home studio and them embellish them with a set gemstone.
Then we’ll spend two days with her new Inside Out Pendant, where we’ll learn to create a complex three dimensional necklace. This pendant is reversible and playful using a unique gemstone that will allow the wearer to play with tiny little silver beads inside the pendant from the back to front. This fun and unusual necklace project is jam-packed with techniques, including design considerations, soldering, filing, polishing, cutting glass, and setting a stone.
Sand Cast Stone Rings is suitable for anyone with any level of experience; the Inside Out Pendant is best suited to intermediate students who have some prior experience with soldering and fabrication. And as always, The Makery provides everything you need for a fun and successful workshop experience. All you have to do is bring eye magnification (if you need it) and show up ready to have fun!
