Join us for a metal clay master class with the incomparable Terry Kovalcik! He’s bringing his stunning Shaman Locket project to our studio, and if metal clay if your thing you will not want to miss it!
This advanced metal clay project explores the process of making a hinged cylindrical receptacle using PMC. This small decorative locket is based on the Tibetan prayer wheel, and is perfect for holding secret wishes, personal prayers, or a small treasured item close to your heart. Along the way, we will cover a variety of techniques, including textured patterns, stencil making and tab hinges. We’ll create a domed lid with elaborate finials, fireable stones and a hidden clasp, and cover dry construction, riveting, wire work, simple soldering, patinas and finishing.
This step by step master class will take us through the construction of this ornate locket using the PMC OneFire Sterling (960 hybrid-a mix of PMC Sterling & PMC3 clays), the clay of choice for superior strength and ease of firing. The Shaman Locket is chock full of essential techniques for complex metal clay fabrication including stencil making, paper templates, dry construction, precision drilling, using embeddables, hinge construction & integration, hidden closure, bail construction, cold connections, assemblage and finishing.
As always, everything you need to participate in the class and complete the project is provided as part of your workshop and materials kit fees – just bring eye magnification and something to take notes, and be ready to have fun!
