Step up your metalsmithing game with this fun project embellished with water castings! You’ll use a freeform stone as the centerpiece of a pendant surrounded by organic sterling components that resemble small woodland lichens. We’ll use a simple, low tech way to get castings without a crucible, and you’ll learn two different bail options to choose from to make your finished piece your own. Along the way, you’ll add useful techniques to your metalsmithing toolbox.
This project will cover how to make and size a custom bezel, stick soldering, sawing, creating a custom bail, stone setting, and finishing. As usual, we’re providing everything you need to complete the project so just come have fun! Please note: this is an intermediate workshop, so students should be able to successfully solder unattended and be proficient in the use of a jeweler’s saw.
Bring a pen and notebook for note-taking and eye magnification if required, but otherwise just come and have fun!
