We are thrilled to be welcoming master metalsmith Ronda Coryell to our studio for a five day comprehensive Argentium workshop. Imagine using a sterling silver alloy that is tarnish-resistant, fuses and solders with less flux, doesn’t get fire scale, and is easier to forge and form. That’s Argentium! We’ll begin with intensive demonstrations and hands-on work as Ronda teaches us the intricacies and specific requirements for working with this “miracle metal.” We’ll learn how to fuse and fabricate flat and dimensional pieces – using less flux, less pickle, and less polishing to finish them – as we create pendant, earring, and ring projects. We’ll cover proper torch use for the best results and explore surface embellishment options with granulation and other detailed elements. We’ll finish up with extra projects specifically designed to teach us how to apply 24kt gold foil to Argentium pieces using the ancient Korean method of keum boo, and how to patina our pieces for maximum effect. You’ll leave with five completed projects and all-new techniques for fabricating unique, quality jewelry pieces in Argentium.
This is an exceptional opportunity to learn from one of the world’s foremost experts in this unique metal in a small, intimate class setting. As always, we’re providing all the tools and materials necessary for you to enjoy and complete the projects; you just have to bring eye magnification (if you need it) and plan to have a good time!

(P.S. Want to learn about fusing gold granulation too?? Ronda will demonstrate it, and we’ll send you information about what to bring if you’d like to try your hand at it. We’re making this optional to keep the materials fee affordable!)

Teaching has become as important to me as creating. Through teaching, I am continually challenged by the questions of “why” and “how” regarding things I sometimes take for granted. Encouraging students to experiment beyond the known limits makes it exciting and keeps me continually learning.
I see the use of Argentium as a way for someone’s work to stand out from the crowd. It is truly a metal of the new millennium. Education is the key to Argentium’s acceptance. It is similar to Standard Sterling, but definitely different. Understanding these differences and the characteristics of Argentium and imparting this to my students is my focus.
