This pendant covers a lot of metalsmithing ground in one project! Using the ancient art of Keum Boo and patterned rolling mill papers, we’ll create our own rustic silver “cabochon” dressed up in gold and subtle texture. Then we’ll build a dramatic multi-prong setting, including hand fabricated “leaf” forms for interest. Plus, the back of the pendant will include a functional pin stem assembly (built from scratch, of course!) that converts to a hidden bail, making this a piece that can be worn as either a pendant or a brooch. We’ll finish off our creation with a lustrous pearl for an added touch of shimmer.
As usual, we’re providing all the tools, materials and equipment necessary for you to complete the project, so you just have to come and have fun! We’re pulling all the skills out of our tool box for this project, and it is essential that students be proficient in both soldering and using a jeweler’s saw. Plus: please note the extended hours for this class – we’ll need every minute!
Bring a pen and notebook for note-taking and eye magnification if required, but otherwise just come and have fun!
