Inspired by water slipping over river rocks and the sandy bottom of deep, still pools, this substantial necklace is nevertheless surprisingly lightweight. It combines sleek wire and textured metal to create both positive and negative visual space, and the nearly limitless shapes and combinations made possible by the simple construction technique means no two necklaces are ever the same. Each piece is completed by modifying heavy link commercial chain and adding a handmade sterling silver clasp.
This project is perfect for both beginner and intermediate makers, and makes use of essential fabrication techniques including soldering, sawing, filing, and elements of box construction. Extensive demonstration and use of the flexshaft is included. Detailed in-person demos are followed by plenty of hands-on work time to successfully complete your piece in the instructor’s fully equipped traveling metalsmithing studio.
This is an all levels workshop and absolutely everything necessary to complete the project is provided in this workshop – all tools, materials, and equipment! In addition, you’ll receive online access to Francesca’s Essentials for the Kitchen Table Jeweler on the innovative Makery University platform!
Bring a pen and notebook for note-taking and eye magnification if required, but otherwise just come and have fun!
