We are thrilled to be welcoming master enamelist Linda Darty for a cloisonne master class at The Makery! Over the course of four days, we’ll explore the rich beauty of cloisonné enameling over copper and fine silver, working with transparent and opalescent color on small jewelry scale pieces. We’ll use fine silver wire to create detailed designs, then fill them with color as Linda shares her methods of selecting, applying, and blending enamels for maximum effect. She’ll show us how to achieve value gradations, luminosity and depth, and the best ways to create beautiful gem-like surfaces. We’ll experiment with the added depth of gold and silver foils underneath select colors to create special effects, and discuss matte finishing techniques and setting options unique to enameling. And we’ll do it all working with gorgeous Japanese enamels renowned for their brilliant, luminous color.
Throughout the workshop, Linda will cover all the tools, mechanics, and firing processes for cloisonne enameling, making this an all levels workshop perfect for everyone from adventurous beginners to more experienced enamelists. Everyone will be challenged to work at their own level of experience with Linda’s expert guidance, and should expect to complete several small cloisonné pieces during the workshop.
Your materials kit fee (payable at the conclusion of the workshop) includes just about all the tools, materials and equipment necessary for you to enjoy all four days, including a generous sample set of 25 lead-bearing Japanese enamels that are yours to keep!
